You’re invited to come take part in our church’s Vacation Bible School from July 12-16, 2010. Our theme is “Treasure Trackers.” Each day children will go on an adventure in search of treasures of truth from God’s Word.

We’ve really camped out on the subject of legalism for the past several Sundays. Our series through 1st Timothy has brought us to a place where Paul describes the “doctrine of devils” to young Timothy.
This “doctrine of devils” is one that neglects to keep the main thing the main thing (w/ the “main thing”, of course, being the gospel of Jesus Christ). Instead of calling sinners to repentance of sin and trust in Christ it beckons them to a life of merely obeying rules.
We took a small detour from 1st Timothy to consider a related passage of Scripture from the Gospel of John. Here is a recap of those several sermons:

A couple of weeks ago we honored the mothers in our church with a special service in their honor. The Scriptures that were read, the prayers that were prayed, and the sermon that was preached all aimed at celebrating God’s grace in giving us mothers to love and care for us.
Pastor Deek preached through the story of the book of Ruth. Here is the sermon audio:

Each mother in attendance was given a purple iris—a flower which symbolizes the virtues of faith, hope, and wisdom—and a copy of John MacArthur’s book, Twelve Extraordinary Women.
It was a great day to be among God’s people and to cherish the gift of our mothers.
For those of you who were with us this past Sunday, 4/25/10, you know that we took a break from our verse-by-verse series through Paul’s first letter to Timothy. We’ve made it halfway through this six-chapter book and its taken us 3 months and 13 sermons:
“An Introduction to 1st Timothy”Now that we’re halfway I sense that it would be helpful to take a small break, a halftime of sorts.
During our halftime we’re going to look at a few different things in God’s Word. This past Sunday we observed Jesus’ parable of the sower in Mark 4. Here is the sermon audio for those two messages.

Zach and Haley White were married last weekend in Spanish Fort. They’ve been coming to Eastwood for several months now. Pastor Deek officiated their wedding. It was truly a beautiful day.

Thanks to all those who attended from Eastwood and showed their support for Zach and Haley. May God bless them with decades of marital blessing and faithfulness.

We had a great Easter weekend here at Eastwood! Things got started off Friday with an Easter egg hunt for the children at Halliday Park. Several ladies in our church worked hard to put together what turned out to be a great times for families and friends of our church and their children. Thanks a ton to all who helped out.
Our Easter worship services also went really well on Sunday. Pastor Deek preached on the resurrection of Christ. Here’s the sermon:

We finished our services by observing the Lord’s Supper. Thanks to all who invited and brought friends and family as guests! It was a great day to be in the house of the Lord.
We had a wonderful time this past weekend at our children’s Super Hero Party. We had all the kids dress up like super heroes and let them participate in five super hero training activities.
The event led up to a story time where our kids learned that Jesus is the greatest super hero of all time—that he really does save people!
We wrapped things up with grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with all the fun sides. We had a great time and our kids learned about the wonderful news that Jesus is the savior of the world!

Today is St. Patrick’s Day, a holiday usually only associated with all things perceived Irish: shamrocks, leprechauns, and good luck. It’s a shame more people don’t know the wonderful Christian heritage behind the holiday.
The real St. Patrick was a Christian missionary who lived and died in the 400’s AD. He was not Irish. He was British. He is known for having brought the gospel to Ireland.
Pastor Deek has done a nice little write-up on the life and ministry of St. Patrick over at his blog. He concludes with a list of things we can learn from St. Patrick’s memory. Go read the piece on St. Patrick here.
Daylight Savings Time begins tonight. Make sure to set your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed.
I hope to see you all in your places ready to serve and ready to worship tomorrow.
Thanks,
Pastor Deek
